Ongoing Classes
Our ongoing classes are our core product. It's where we offer the principles of drawing and painting. Beyond this, we support our students as they progress to more advanced concepts.
It all begins with a simple step drawing. These are drawings that help our students see the simple shapes that make up a completed subject. As the student's skills improve, they advance to more complex step drawings. Ultimately, they will learn to recognize the simpler shapes that make up a subject. This is the most important fundamental of representational art.
From their very first drawing, our students also learn to use color and tone. This lets them hone their skills in every aspect of creating a piece of art as well as keeping the process enjoyable. We start with soft pastels which provide easy application and blending. While learning to use color, we also teach students the principles of tone (highlight and shading) to give their creation depth and form and make them look more realistic.
As their skills continue to improve, we introduce them to watercolor, beginning with the basics. Here they continue to learn about mixing colors and exercise what they learned about creating tone while working with a more challenging and rewarding medium.
Our classes are ongoing and accommodate a range of ages and skill levels. Because instruction is individualized to the skill level of the student, they may begin attending classes at any time.
Please stop by during our regular business hours — we would love to show you examples of some of our students' work and give your more information about our curriculum. While you're here, you may also schedule a free trial lesson. In this way you will be able to experience our instruction first hand.
